Astralian singer-songwriter Sia released her cover of “California Dreamin'” on May 12. Her soulful version of the beloved ’60s hit was recorded for the soundtrack to the upcoming disaster film San Andreas.

“California Dreamin'” was originally released nearly 50 years ago in December 1965 as The Mamas and The Papas’ debut single from If You Can Believe Your Eyes and Ears. Sia decided to cover the hippie gem for the upcoming film, San Andreas, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Kylie Minogue. The secretive singer gives the track a more soulful sound. She opens it with a performance full of bravado before the “Chandelier”-like beats hit. Strings also accompany her haunting rendition as she sings, “All the leaves are brown and the sky is gray.” Backed by a choir, Sia takes the song to church by way of her elastic vocals. The dream suitably takes a darker turn thanks to Sia to fit the movie’s grim storyline.

Sia’s rendition of “California Dreamin'” was released to iTunes on May 12. The earthquake-heavy San Andreas movie will hit theaters on May 29.
